Ironbound Community Comes Together to Support Annual Children’s Coat & Toy Drive

A coalition including East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador, the Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID), the Newark Police Department, the Portuguese American Police Association (PAPA) and the Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) is sponsoring the annual Ironbound Holiday Coat & Toy Drive to benefit the needy of our community.  Donations of new toys and new and good quality used coats for children ranging in age from infants to 18 years old will gladly be accepted until Friday, December 20th.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9:00 am till 4:30 pm and on Saturdays by special arrangement at Little City Hall, 113 Monroe Street. Donations can also be dropped off at Investors Bank’s Ironbound branch offices (184 Ferry Street, 255 Lafayette Street and 275 Chestnut Street) and at Garden State Community Bank (37 Wilson Avenue). Check with the banks regarding their office hours.

“I want to thank the IBID, ICC, PAPA and the Newark Police Department for their help in this year’s effort,” noted Councilman Amador. “Once again, I appeal to everyone to bring a new Coat or Toy to Little City Hall so we can make someone happy in this holiday season.”

“The business and restaurant owners of the Ironbound District are pleased to once again show our support and join with our community partners to make this year’s Holiday Coat & Toy Drive a success,” said Seth A. Grossman, IBID Executive Director. “It is important to support the holiday spirit especially when many families continue to face tough economic times,” added Steven T. Yglesias, President of the IBID.

Detective Michael Silva of the Newark Police Department, who is helping to coordinate the effort, said he hopes the donations will help contribute to a happier holiday season for local residents in need.
