Steven T. Yglesias, President of the Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID), was honored recently by the Anibal Ramos Jr. Civic Association at its annual Leadership Awards Breakfast. Yglesias, the owner of Mompou Tapas Wine Bar and Lounge on Ferry Street, received the Community Leader award at the event held at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark.
The honorees included Jacqueline Sharp, President, Parkside Manor Tenant Association, Rafael Concepcion, Owner, El Merengue Restaurant, Scottie Fields, Owner, Daybreak Express, Kathy Duke Johnson, Principal,FirstAvenueSchool, Keith Kinard, Executive Director, Newark Housing Authority, Anthony Ambrose, Chief of Investigators, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Alfonso Perez, Owner, Pueblo Meat Market and Stephen N. Adubato, Founder,NorthWardCenter.
Yglesias was recognized for his work in community development to improve the quality of life in Newark’s Ironbound for local residents, business and property owners and his support for ongoing streetscape improvements in the Ironbound District.
The Anibal Ramos Jr. Civic Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Newark residents by offering scholarships to students, hosting free community events and donating food and other goods to needy families.
