IBID Joins Councilman Amador to Support the Newark Police Department

NEWARK, N.J., May 26, 2009 – Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) President Steven T. Yglesias and Executive Director Seth A. Grossman joined Councilman Augusto Amador in supporting this year’s annual Memorial Day Picnic honoring members of the Newark Police Department and those police officers who have served the Ironbound and East Ward communities.

Yglesias donated the food for the event through his restaurant, Mompou Tapas Wine Bar & Lounge on Ferry Street. “The Ironbound BID works closely with the police department on quality of life issues including parking violations, litter, car theft, and other disturbances, and we are proud to support them for this annual event and throughout the year,” noted Yglesias. “Providing a safe and welcoming environment for the people who live, work and visit the Ironbound District is one of our primary concerns,” added Seth A. Grossman, IBID Executive Director.

In regard to local quality of life concerns, East Ward Police Captain Dennis Reilly reminded everyone that car theft can be reduced if people remove all valuable items from their cars and lock doors. Plus, make sure you are wearing your seatbelt. Law enforcement is serious about keeping people safe by reducing the number of seat belt offenders.

“As the East Ward’s representative on Newark’s Municipal Council, I recognize each day the commitment of the police officers in our community and throughout the City dedicated to keeping our streets safe,” concluded Councilman Amador.
